At 3 5 thick you won t be worried about the ground beneath you and because the pad is insulated it will help keep you warm in 30 degree temperatures. It isn t our favorite but it is much more comfortable than many self inflating pads. The pad i initially bought was the big agnes insulated air core.

This exped mat has a larger diameter deflation valve that makes fast work of packing up the pad. The big agnes q core slx insulated pad is an extremely light and comfortable pad to sleep on in any condition. The big agnes pad also takes four or five times as long to deflate since the air must exit the pad through the same tiny mouth piece. Gear reviews there are sleeping pads that weigh everywhere from a few ounces to a few pounds.

It is a nice bonus that this exped synmat 9 pad was 45 less expensive than the same size of big agnes q core. Because it isn t insulated we don t recommend this pad if you expect to encounter snow or cold weather. The big agnes air core scored poorly in our review but may be a good budget option if you can t afford a more luxurious sleeping pad.
